Ska Down Her Way

 One Luv Bar recently had its own version of girl power. Reggae and ska bands gathered at the venue and infused the crowd with lots of up beat tempos and good music. The night was powered by Zionneh and Placid and of course the thorn among the roses that night Barrio Morning Glory. Whew that night was really pumped up thanks guys more power to SKA!!

Back to the Studio

      Its back to the studio for us once again after several years of waiting and of course saving money for our upcoming EP. We started to record our first cut last week at Ear Bender recording studios in Kawit Cavite yes my brothers the studio is owned and operated by one of cavite’s finest acts SIN (Thanks Sir Cha and Sir Macoy!)

Like we always tell everyone recording is a gruelling experience for us it will take alot of cuts before we settled in for the quality of what we are seelking in every song yah some would say the technology nowadays could easen the situation up. but as for us artist we still have to perfect the craft not necessarily perfect but close to perfect here are some pics for that long day

i was given a tough cookie to crack as my fellow corporate bummer asked me "Does friendship implies on your band?" I proudly answered the hell NO!!! we’re not just friends we are family. Recently the band is experiencing major changes not only in our music which i can say was the result of the formation of JE-BA-LO-GI and of course the guys are not getting any younger we are about to celebrate the 6th year anniversary of fingertrap some stayed some were forced to leave and some made choices. This matters i think was a very tough one to solve if you were just friends.

 Have you wondered how did these guys make their sound as sweet as candy?? Satch’s scream Vai’s pull offs using the floating tremolo or maybe PG’s freakingly awesome shredds. I was well fascinated with Eric Johnson not only because he uses my favorite guitar ( a Fender 50’s strat ) nor being different from vai and satch ( EJ uses fixed bridge guits most of the time ) thats why even Jim Henson, yes guys the creator of miss piggy and kermit eyed on this texan guitar god jim used a line of cliffs of dover for an opening theme of the muppets. Lets ake a closer look on Ej’s arsenal

Back in 2001 a guy sold me his guitar ( A squier fat telecaster) for 3 thousand pesos in order for him to compensate the damages of a wreck on his car. I utmostly grabbed the offer and soon fell in love with the tone of this beauty. Eversince this guitar became my main axe for gigging and recording stuff for fingertrap. upon my acquisition of an ibby and my beloved fender strat i have sort of retired my tele. It suddent popped on my head to restore my tele back to its glorious form so i brought it to Jon’s attention(of Elegee guitars) well i was really surprised after a few days when Jon gave me a message that my ax was ready for pick up. Well i was left speechless my tele was restored in its form and plus a few alterrnations and mods on it thanks guys keep the good work!!!

A slight recap of 2007 and a not so-accurate predictions of 2008

As the pages of 2007 came to its end most of us have pondered, what a year it was bombings, more bombings the manila penn siege what else?? what the heck its already the normal pinoy drama. The year 2007 was also a roller coster ride for us, ups and downs stop and goes. As we always say leave it all behind same thing goes for fingertrap. Compared to 2006 2007 was more quiet the cavite scene is still having its hiatus sad to say up until now the once unified cavite is now divided.(geesh why dont we stop the branding mostly DISCRIMINATION) look at what we have now lets act to save the scene. We are currently targeting our recording session early this 2008 for us to release the much awaited EP this summer( Sana Matuloy!!! yung release ) current band manager/booking agent Jen Primero is really working double time amidst her skeds with nerveline. As for the band more booze??? hehehe we are all hoping for a fruitful year to come for our band. the scene good health for us (WORLD PEACE!!!! oohhh yeah!)

For the Love of Speed and Music

    It was one hell of a day for speed freaks and geeks in Rosario Cavite. As the municipal council held its first drag tourney for underbone bikes(Honda Waves,Suzuki Raiders,Yamaha Mios) not to mention the hard rockin party after the race thanks to nerveline they provided the heavy load of rockin and rollin' It was a sober i cant find the pics on the race track. We'll here are some pics of the oktoberfest closing party we did the opening duties for nerveline that night

Bombs Away!!! Stuka Siren

  Everybody run to the shelters! Nah! The screeching sound does not come from the air were this band got their name but from the blaring guitars of Jess, Andrei on Bass accompanied by the sweet melodic voice of their new vocalist kaye did I misspelled it? I’ve seen and heard these guys played numerous and well applauded shows on Cavite and around the metro as well. Heavily influenced by pop-punk and grunge acts they deliver their goodies with a unique blend and touch. Its like listening to a  more heavier and faster pace version of moonpools and caterpillars a raunchy touch of grunge from the guitars and bass plus the high up beats of punk music implied by the drummer which the band says they are having a lot of misfortunes after loosing a handful of them hehehehe!! Currently the band recorded their EP on which even I don’t have a personal copy well I heard from a lot of guys you can hear their songs aired on the Bomb FM.. More Power to you guys!!!

Ska beyond ska

 A few days age the band just finished answering some stuff from a magazine coming from DLSU-D. We cant help but answer this question which is always raised by peeps who would like to know the core of the band. They would always ask "How can you describe your music?" in a short manner we would answer that just think of it this way its ska beyond ska.Fingertrap is composed of ten musicians come to think of nine guys and one girl bringing their own style and preference combining it to a complicated genre like ska. In ska we have the norms and standards on how you can say it is ska you have 2-tone ska ala The Selecters and Madness then you have Ska-Core or The new waves of the music. We always tend to push the limits like mixing ska with the style of progressive music or mixing it with whining emo music.We select the later cuts and produced it into a single track rehearse it over and over again thats why practice is so important specially having extra instruments like the trumpet saxophone and the trombone. 

Paul Gilbert steals the show

    The much awaited G3 2007 held in Baltomore Maryland was totally a blast. Guitar fanatics from all ages swarmed the arena just to watch the event which satch organized way back in 1996. The G3 tour usually features 3 big names in the guitar industry during the first ever G3 tour Joe Satriani along with his ace student Steve vai and of course the texan guitar god Eric Johnson not to offend SRV fans (hehe!) G3 starts with each artist performing their live sets and for the finale the 3 of them jamming together i cannot forget the 96 G3 tour the awesome trio did a Hendrix classic "Red House" with eric Johnson singin with a rare view of him in his cherry burst Gibson ES-335 please do correct me for the color. Well this time around the crowd went wild for this fella the former Mr. Big shred head none other than Paul Gilbert. PG came in first with a few licks coming from old Racer X stuff plus a teaser of whats coming from this guitar virtuoso. They really went wild when PG came on stage holding a double neck ibby wowed the crowd with the fastest licks ever seen and heard.Compared to Petrucci's set which was according to other fans was kinda boring except for the kids who were into him the Satch fans were bored of course waiting for the surfer.This was the first for PG to be in the G3 tour well wow he really is half man half amazing  you better go grab a copy of this if you are a guitar fanatic two thumbs up PG!!!
